April 11, 2009 - Exciting news and update!

Hello all animal lovers, members, and friends,

At the April 7th, 2009 regular meeting of the CCAPL, members present voted to pursue purchasing 5.393 acres on State Route 43 between Carrollton and Malvern. With the EPA's approval of the sewer systems needed, this land will become our animal shelter site. The owners of the property are willing to work with us as it may take as long as 90-120 days to find out if the land is suitable for the two sewer systems we need.

This will take some time, as site applications have to be done, test hole sites have to be dug, and a certified soil-testing-person has to report his evaluation of soil content, permeability of the soil, etc. and sewer plans have to be done and submitted, and much more.

Mike Hettler, of Hettler Engineering has been contacted to help with all the things that have to be done. (This was voted on in 2008 when another land was considered to purchase but we were not ready at the time for that

commitment ). Mike will work with us and report his progress so we can present to the Board of Directors and the members.

With this commitment comes even more determination with our organization to see this dream become a reality. If you know of anyone willing to join (even if the cannot attend meetings or help with fund-raisers), their membership is vitally important to our growing organization. Recruit members!

I'm presently working on three grants for help with purchasing the property and other expenses we will soon incure. The soil testing fee is around $500.00. Plus there will be other costs soon, I'm sure.

Because we do not have all the money to purchase the land, if it happens, we are presently setting up a loan at a local bank. They do not see a problem with financing the balance on the property, and we have a person who is willing to co-sign the loan for us. Our loan payments will run around $305-340.00 a month for 10 years, with the option of paying it off before it is due. Therefore, volunteers are needed to help with fund-raising activities and more events to be scheduled. This is a must if we are going to have monthly payments to meet!

More information and updates will be posted as it becomes available.

Thanks everyone for all your support!

"Dream it, Believe it, Achieve it"

Your President,

Eileen Rohrer smile

April 5, 2009 CCAPL updates

Posted by Patti Willoughby at 12:47 AM on April 05, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Hi, Everyone, smile

The Carroll County Commissioners do not have any land to sell us or to lease, so we are pursing other options.

We are moving along and scheduling fund-raisers now that the weather has improved. So, if you have some time, we sure could use your help with the up-coming fund-raisers scheduled. (Please check the main page: Upcoming Events to see where you can help out.)

The Land Committee recently checked on some available land to purchase on State Route 43 between Carrollton and Malvern. There will be information and updates on this at the meeting on April 7, 2009. (This coming Tuesday.)

Hope you can attend and give your input and suggestions. We need you!

If you want photos of your pets posted on this website, please send them to Erica or myself (try to reduce the size to under 500 jpg's please. Easier to download and post. (I still have dial-up and it is such a pain. Sure wish we would get DSL in the area!)

We had a great day at Dollar General Market for the membership drive. Sold many raffle tickets, cat and dog toys, and handed out literature on us and talked with many people on who we are and what we are trying to accomplish. Thanks to everyone who volunteered that day and especially Dollar General Market for allowing us to be there. We even signed up some members! There is another membership drive on April 25, at Tractor Supply. We need volunteers for this also.

I've been working on more grants to hopefully get some funding to help us with the purchase of land if it comes about. With that statement made, when we get land, we will be committed. This is why we started this organization, and yes, it is scary and poses more concerns and questions, but we feel we can do it!

Hope to see you at a meeting soon!

It is all about the animals! "Dream it, Believe it, Achieve it"

February 3rd, 2009 meeting accomplishments

Hello, Everyone,smile

We had a very successful meeting with a good number in attendance. Also we welcomed Michael and Diana Reed from Canton, Ohio who are very interested in our group. Ed Hale, from the Malvern/Mr. Thrifty newspaper (a new member) was present and took photos of the 2009 Officers and Directors.

Ed Hale also took a picture of a little boy named, Julian Grimm 7 years old, from Minerva, who saved over the course of 7 months, 8,100 pennies ($81.00) and presented them to our Treasurer, Erica Zeedyk. What a blessing!

When asked by the President why he did this, he said, "To help the animals!" This young fellow has a very caring heart for animals, and he is to be commended for his efforts in diligently raising this amount of money on his own.

Some fund-raisers are in the works. Vice-President, Amy Tripp has taken on the "Cookbook" packet, to see if we can do cookbooks for a fund-raiser. Also, Junior member, Kyra Wadsworth, has taken on the packet of information regarding selling Breck perineal bulbs, tubors, and plants as a fund-raiser as well.

Director Merle Albrect suggested after the meeting was over, of possibly doing a calendar as a fund-raiser. The President is checking into this and will report at the March meeting.

The President and Director Merle Albrecht, and member Barbara Albrecht, were present at the Carroll County Commissioners office on Thursday February 5, 2009 at 9 a.m. and presented the completed business/financial plan they requested in August of 2008. We are asking the C.C. Commissioners to sell or lease C.C. land to us to build our shelter on. They said they would review the information given, and get back to us as soon as possible.

See you next month at the March 3rd, meeting!

To the generous public, local businesses, friends, and members, we want to
take this opportunity to thank you for all you have done for us and for all
the continued support of our organization. This past year was phenomenal in
our continued efforts to raise money to build an animal shelter for Carroll
County! Through fund-raising activities, memberships, and our on-going
"Pennies for Paws" donation cans placed throughout Carroll County at various
businesses, we have accomplished a great deal this past year. A special
"Thank you" to all the businesses who continue to let us have our donation
cans in their fine establishments.

This coming year will be quite another challenge for us. But, we have faced
challenges before since we started this organization with vigor and
enthusiasm and we will continue to do so. On January 17, 2009, it will be
just two short years since our inception. We have gained a lot of exposure
through various fund-raising activities and community services events.

Our preliminary animal shelters plans are done. There will be some changes
of course, but this is to be expected as new and different ideas come forth.
The shelter plans have a variety of services and options for incoming cats,
dogs, or any other small domestic animal that we might temporarily house
until a "forever home" is acquired. It is all about the animals we want to
save. We realize we cannot save them all, but with an animal shelter, there
can and will be organized adoption and many facets of the organizational
structure within the animal shelter will be not just for the animals that
come under our temporary care, but for the betterment of the community. This
animal shelter will not be something just thrown together, but an animal
shelter that has been methodically and carefully thought out and be an asset
to the community.

We are still searching for land to put this shelter on. The CCAPL's
Land/Shelter committee is seeking at least five acres in Carroll County, in
an area that is not only accessible to workers but also to the general
public. We would like to have more acreage, as we would like to implement a
"Walking Park" and a "Nature Preserve" as well, and it is possible we may
have to house larger domestic animals.

The financial/business plan is completed, and this plan will help us for
grant funding and any other phases of our progress as it is needed.

Our first meeting for 2009 is January 6th. at the Carrollton Friendship
Center, south end of the C.C. Fairgrounds at 6:30 p.m. There will be a "Pot
Luck" dinner and a brief meeting. Join us and be part of an exciting and
progressive organization that is continually striving to accomplish our
goals: Procure land and build a needed animal shelter for Carroll County!

If you have a dream, and you are believing in that dream, you can achieve
it. We know it takes hard work, volunteers, and many caring individuals who
love animals to do it. We know in our hearts it can be done!
