Delicious homemade dog biscuits receipe

Healthy version - Homemade Dog Biscuits receipe by Eileen Arrendale - Thanks, Eileen! (permission given by this member to post.)

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: 1/2 cup solid shortening, one cup boiling water, 1/3 cup powered milk, one tsp. powered beef or chicken boullion, 1/4 tsp. garlic powder, 2 tsp. dried parsley, 3 and 1/2 cups whole wheat flour, 1 egg.

HAVE ON HAND: Cornmeal, dog biscuit cutter, and paper towels or newspaper for after the biscuits are baked.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARATION: Cut shortening down into smaller pieces and place in large mixing bowl. Add boiling water to shortening. (This will melt the shortening.) Add remaining ingredients in the order above. Mix by hand until the dough feels velvety not sticky. If sticky, add a little more flour, or if dry, add a little more water for velvety texture.

Chill dough in plastic wrap for 15 minutes in refrigerator.  Then, roll dough out about 1/2 inch thick on your counter top, dusted with cornmeal. Cut out biscuits and dust lightly with more cornmeal. Place on cookie sheet, dusted with cornmeal.

Bake in oven for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. When done, slid biscuits off cookie sheet onto area with newspaper and separate them. (The newspaper ink does not come off onto the biscuits-or if you prefer, use paper towels.)

Let biscuits stand for 24 hours so any moisture in the biscuits are absorbed by the newspaper or the paper towels. Ready to serve!
